Off She Goes…

Today is Ka’s first day at school.  Turns out, I was not the only one counting the days left for school to start 🙂  And I don’t blame her.  Imagine being a 5-year-old stuck at home with your mum for 4 long months and no friends to play with.  The kid was so excited about starting school, it was almost like she was being allowed to breathe again after having been made to hold her breath for 4 months.  Getting her to finish her dinner on time last night, getting her to go to bed at 6:30pm (when 8pm was a challenge until the day before), getting her to wake up at 6:00 am and getting her to get ready for school by 7:15 am was all cake walk.  That’s how desperate she was.  And for good reason.  Her face was glowing so bright, a couple more minutes around her and Mr. M and I would have had to get our sunglasses out :)!

She was excited about wearing a uniform, and about going to school on a school bus like a big girl (which she totally believes she is), and having a school bag that has shoulder straps and wheels! It’s amazing how little it takes to make a kid brim with joy.  And now, I have 8 hours to kill of which I have already spent 2 hours getting anxious about Ka and hoping she has a good time at school in spite of knowing very well that she is going to have a blast.  But, I am a mother and the anxiety and worrying comes with the territory. So, 6 more hours to go before that knot in my stomach gets undone.  While I work on that knot, here’s a picture of little Ka, looking all lit up inside in her uniform and with the school bag that she’s such a proud owner of…
